Name: Kafka Hibino
Alias: Kaiju No.8
Age: 32
Synopsis: At a young age, Kafka's hometown was devastated by a kaiju attack. He made a promise to his childhood friend that they'd join the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force together.
She made it and became the beloved hero of the Defence Force. Kafka ended up as a kaiju corpse cleaner.
After a brush with death saving a newbie at his job, he was reminded of his promise and vowed to get moving.
Then he turned into a Kaiju. Aww man!
Despite this, he still entered the Defence Force with his new friend and secret keeper., the newbie Reno Ichikawa He also picked up a sassy lost child friend in Kikoru Shinomiya, a kaiju slaying progidy.
Eventually, his secret let slip, and he became the Defence Force's secret weapon.
Personality:
Perhaps Kafka's defining feature is that he puts everyone ahead of himself without question. He's always been that way, and has shown himself willing to sacrifice on the small scale or up to sacrificing his life for strangers. Kafka often doesn't think on it- he just acts. He feels tormented by not being good enough, not being useful enough, and always wants to do more. Kafka pushes himself to be better, often shouldering far too much.
He's also a goofy guy. He feels his emotions openly and often, generally says whatever enters his head first and expresses himself obviously. These are often fits of rage at annoyances or eye-popping surprises. But he just as often expresses the positive feelings that are all too suppressed by some- he doesn't have it in him to have a rival because he just tells people how cool they are to their faces.
Appearance:
In his human form he's a tall, brown-haired man with a dad-bod. Very muscular but with a bit of a belly.
His monster form is a 8-foot tall, skull faced electric reptile.
Abilities:
Kafka is a martial artist of intermediate skill, decent with a knife and gun. In his combat suit, which allows users to access superhuman strength and speed, he can barely breach human limits- he has a very low compatibility with the suit, unleashing only 1% of its potential. He has an excellent working knowledge of kaiju biology, and when in human form is more useful in aiding tactics than direct combat.
He can transform into a monster at will, though the transformation is affected by his mental state. When afraid of its potential, he couldn't change. On the other hand, he occasionally accidentally changes when shocked or exerting himself.
When transformed, he possesses phenomenal superhuman physical abilities. He can shapeshift to bolster these, such as bulking up, growing tendrils, armour plates, or extra mouths. His signature move in this regard is growing biological jets, which he uses to boost the impact of his punches or his jumps. Could he even call himself a kaiju if he didn't have some kind of breath weapon? He can also project electricity, but we haven't seen that used properly yet.
He has a radar sense which seems to come out of his horns, but he can sense incoming kaiju in human form too.
When pushed past his limits, the inner monster can take control and he gets way scarier.
